ASUD has witnessed an improvement in school attendance by children living with HIV. The district health office thanks ASUD through Egmont funded activities for increased number of adolescents retained on ART medication and those having suppressed viral load. ASUD realize that most of the children who fail to pass nutritional test are those living with HIV. Most of them come from poor families that can’t afford a decent meal three times a day. This is poverty beyond imagination. It hurts to see most of children who drop out and others do not attend school classes on a daily basis are those living with HIV. Discussions with parents reveal that taking medication on empty stomachs is quite challenging.

ASUD is happy to have contributed towards the turn around. Lukas Gama is one of the children who attend classes every day because his family has food every day plus better income. “I am able to attend classes at Nkhorongo Primary School without missing classes. This is possible because of two main things;my parents are able to buy me School uniform and contribute to a school development fund which is a must at our school. I used to be returned from school in the past after failing to meet these conditions. My parents now sell any surplus produce from ASUD/Egmont Trust supported project. Secondly, I take balanced meal every day and I am always healthy.”
